Dr. Soo-Keun Sean Kim is originally a Long Islander from Great Neck, NY. He joined the North Jersey Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery team because he found the practice as a whole to be remarkably dedicated to doing what is best for their patients and colleagues.
He endeavors to complement his new team with an emphasis on education, innovation, and collaboration. Dr. Kim believes that the best patient care is the combination of scientific evidence and the personal understanding of each patient’s needs and goals.
Dr. Sean Kim completed his undergraduate studies at Duke University with a major in biology and minors in chemistry and Spanish studies. He then received his DMD at Boston University (along with his class anesthesia award), after which he received his MD while completing his oral & maxillofacial surgery (OMS) residency at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Like other graduates from contemporary CODA-accredited OMS programs, Dr. Kim received 5 months of formal general anesthesia training in addition to deep sedation training during OMS service, and has recorded experience in major oral & maxillofacial surgery procedures including trauma, orthognathic surgery, regenerative procedures, and placement/removal of hardware and prostheses.
Dr. Kim also displayed a keen interest in global health/surgery completing two global health tracks (Emory University’s GLOBE and GHRSP, including a one month rotation with Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia), as well as being awarded a grant by OMS Foundation to accompany Healing the Children Northeast’s cleft lip/palate outreach trip to Santa Cruz, Bolivia. Additionally, Dr. Sean Kim was funded to complete a 1-month Osteo Science Foundation rotation focused on advanced implantology, tissue regeneration/reconstruction, and dentoalveolar prosthetic rehabilitation.
Like other members of his specialty within New Jersey and globally, Dr. Kim is a proud member of his profession, with membership in AAOMS and ADA. He continues to pursue his global health interests through participation and membership with IAOMS, ALACIBU, and ITI. He looks forward to connecting to local professional organizations and supports strengthening the education of his regional dental community.
Sean enjoys a simultaneous pursuit of a wide array of interests and passions. He is fond of traveling, nature, cuisines, and learning about history and science. He spent the vast majority of his upbringing playing lacrosse and other competitive sports. After a long period of academic training, he enjoys exploring new restaurants and cafes, hiking, and spending time with friends and family.
He continues to contribute his time and resources to the Nature Conservancy, the World Wildlife Fund, Doctors Without Borders, and looks forward to contributing to the Billion Oyster Project on the New York Harbor/Hudson River.
